Curtis Bower Halteman, 87, of Souderton, went to be with his Lord November 23, 2021 at the Lutheran Home in Telford. Curtis was born in Souderton to the late Preston and Katie (Bower) Halteman and lived 84 years in Souderton until illness required him to enter a care facility in 2019. Curtis was married to his beloved wife Patricia Ann for 50 years until her death in 2009.
Curtis worked for Bergey's Inc. in Franconia for 68 years, 1950-2019. He started at the age of 16 performing oil changes and other maintenance on cars and trucks while steadily learning the trade of truck mechanics. Eventually, he became the service manager of Bergey's heavy duty truck service, a position he held for the better part of 50 years. His work ethic and fairness made him respected by customers and colleagues alike.
Curtis's favorite past time was hunting. He traveled extensively through the United States and Canada pursuing a variety of big game. Hunting whitetail deer was by far his favorite. Hunting afforded him a fantastic release from the pressures of his high demand job. Along with the serenity of the outdoors came the camaraderie of friends and acquaintances alike. The laughter and stories shared may have been the more significant part of the hunt. This love of the outdoors led him to join a group of fellow workers and friends from the area to purchase a property in Tioga County, Pa, that would become his favorite place on this earth, a passion that he fostered in his children and grandchildren.
In an effort to ready himself for the hunting season, he found his next obsession. Fitness. Starting in his late thirties at the YMCA in Lansdale, working out and playing racquetball, he started a lifestyle that would stay with him into his eighties. He enjoyed running, biking and playing racquetball. For many years, men twenty or more years his junior would marvel at his ability to perform on the racquetball court.
In addition to his wife Patricia, Curtis was preceded in death by brothers Merrill and Alton Halteman; and a sister, Norma Benner. He is survived by his children, Bryan Halteman and his wife, Victoria, of Denair Ca., Jeffrey Halteman and his wife, Maria, of Harleysville Pa., and Gina Formica and her husband, Bill, of Harleysville Pa. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Hackman; a brother, Paul Halteman; and his sister, Pauline Vail.
A viewing will be held on Friday, December 10 th , from 6-8 pm at the Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home Inc., 667 Harleysville Pike Telford Pa 18969. A second viewing will be held on Saturday December 11 th from 9-11 am at Calvary Church of Souderton, 820 Rt 113 Souderton, followed by a funeral service at 11am. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
