Claude Arthur Bevan, 79, a resident of Peter Becker Community in Harleysville, PA for the last two and a half years, passed away Friday, February 25, 2022, at Grand View Hospital after a two-year battle with cancer. He and his wife, Katherine (McClure) Bevan, would have celebrated their 37 th wedding anniversary on May 18 th of this year. They had formerly been residents of Towamencin Township, PA for 35 years.
Born January 31, 1943, in Reading, PA, he was a son of the late Charles A. and Dorothy J. (Rhode) Bevan. He was a 1960 graduate of Upper Darby High School and was also a graduate of Spring Garden College. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as a Navy Air reconnaissance photographer.
Mr. Bevan was employed for 43 years at Rohm & Haas where he was an ion exchange chemist and research scientist. He was a very active member of Christ Covenant Church where he could be found working on a plethora of building and property projects or serving on a ministerial or financial team.
Claude loved adventure and was an avid skier of slopes in Europe, Canada, and throughout the United States. He loved sailing and earned his captain's license. He enjoyed sailing the East Coast and islands of the Caribbean with his Rohm and Haas sailing group. His most adventurous sail was from Bermuda to the United States with two other crew members. He also enjoyed eating, bowling, traveling, and other aquatic activities.
Claude was known for his infectious laugh and a deep willingness to help wherever help was needed. He had a strong love for his wife and son. He was most thankful that he was able to attend his son's wedding on June 6 th , 2021, after two postponements due to the pandemic.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Scott Bevan and his wife, Tatiana, of Mount Arlington, NJ; a brother, Clark Bevan and his wife, Kathryn, of Oviedo, FL; and a sister, April McDaniel and her husband, Travis, of Pensacola, FL. He is also survived by two brothers-in-law, William McClure and his wife, Elaine, of Longboat Key, FL, and Raymond McClure and his wife, Kimberly, of Elon, NC; many cousins, nieces, and nephews, and three dear boys that he loved like grandsons: Chase, Cole, and Shane Kaler.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Ann Bushey and her husband, Bruce; and his parents-in-law, William and Esther McClure.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 11 A.M. on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at Christ Covenant Church, 2200 Mainland Road, Harleysville, PA 19438, where the family will receive friends from 10 – 11 A.M. Masks are strongly recommended, regardless of vaccination status, at the church. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the church. Arrangements are by Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home, Inc. of Franconia Twp., PA.
