Obituary

Charles H. Yoder, 94, of Telford, PA, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024, in Grandview Hospital, Sellersville, PA. Married to the late Louise (Kerber) Yoder for 70 years, he was the son of Paul F. Yoder and Katie (Hunsicker) Yoder. His early education was at three different one-room schoolhouses and then a three-room high school. He loved to learn, excelled at school, and studied mechanical engineering at Drexel University. After graduating he spent most of his career working for Ingersoll Rand.

Charlie and Louise bought an old farmhouse in Bethlehem Township that required a year of hard work before they could move there. The house had no indoor bathroom and needed plumbing, electric wiring, and general repairs. Charlie enjoyed woodworking and made kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom cabinets and closets. He could fix almost anything and loved to find creative solutions to problems. He and Louise loved their house and seven acres and the landscaping they created together made a beautiful haven for their growing family.

Church was always very important to Charlie. He taught Sunday School, led Bible studies, and served on the Consistory. When their church sponsored a family from Burma, he read books on how to teach English as a second language and spent many hours with the family using what he had learned.

Charlie was an eternal optimist, enjoyed and respected people, and relished a lively discussion. Social justice was often on his mind.  He favored games of strategy and was an enthusiastic competitor. Hunting, camping, canoeing and hiking in the great outdoors brought him tremendous joy.  He spent many hours researching family genealogy which he then enjoyed sharing. Maps were a source of endless fascination, and he enjoyed traveling for work or leisure. Local and national history were among his favorite reading topics. Most especially, Charlie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Survivors: Daughters Sandra Kemmerer (Curtis) of Bethlehem, PA; Charlotte Berringer (Gary) of Erie, PA; and Janice Summers of Mullica Hill, NJ. Grand and great-grandchildren: Lisa Kemmerer and Matt Pezzuto and children Milo and Ella; Laura Kemmerer and David Nelson and children Jonas and Alice; Beth Berringer and Benjamin Keane and daughter Althea; Ian and Kerri Berringer. Sisters: Marie Wenner and Betty Reiff, brother James (Ann) Yoder, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son Edward Yoder, grandson Stephen Kemmerer and siblings Henry, Ruth Kilburn, George, Paul, and Mildred Hatt.
