Charles R. Ross, 87, of Upper Salford, Pennsylvania, passed away on Monday January 1, 2024. He was the husband of Katharine V. Ross, also a professional artist, with whom he shared 35 years of marriage. Born in Philadelphia, he was the youngest of nine children of the late James and Helen Ross.
Charles served in the United States Marine Corps from 1955-1959. Charles was a professional artist. He had his formal art training at the Fleisher Art Memorial and the Philadelphia Museum College of Art. After leaving the College of Art he continued studying watercolor with the renowned watercolorist W. Emerton Heitland. His work is inspired by the rural fields and villages of Bucks and Montgomery Counties, and the rugged landscapes of Maine. His Watercolor was published in "Celebrating Phillips' Mill Seventy -five Mill Years of Art", honoring a select group of Impressionist artists. Many of his watercolors have been reproduced as greeting cards for Century Engraving Company of Chicago and Paramount Greeting Cards of Rhode Island. He is also represented in corporate and private collections throughout the country. Charles was also a medallic sculpturer for the Franklin Mint, Philadelphia.
He was a former member of the Philadelphia Watercolor Society, Baltimore Watercolor Society, and Hudson Valley Art Association and the American Artists Professional League in New York. Charles had received many awards from these associations along with awards from Perkiomen Valley Art Center, Lambertville Historical Society and Philips Mill in Doylestown.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Melinda Mihalcik (Steve) and Cathleen Ross, and two stepdaughters, Dawn Timbers and Tracy Minnick (George). He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Devon Mihalcik, Corey Ross, Brittani Ross, John Booth, Tara Booth, George Minnick and Jesse Minnick, four great-grandchildren, Calder Ross, Ryanne Ross, Audrey Minnick and Owen Minnick and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a stepson Michael Scott Timbers.
