Bruce Lenich, of Telford, PA, passed thru death into everlasting life on Sunday afternoon, June 18, 2023, at the age of 88. He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene Buskirk Lenich, on May 8th of this year.
He is survived by his son, Brian Lenich and partner, Amy Lewis; and his daughter, Janice Lenich Storms and her son, Jonathan.
Bruce earned his science degrees from Temple, and his Masters in Divinity from United Theological Seminary where he met Arlene Buskirk who was completing her Master's degree in Religious Education. They were married in 1965. He completed his first obligation as a First Lt. in the U. S. Army's Chemical and Biological Warfare research laboratory, after which he was part of Wyeth Laboratories' team commercially producing the oral polio vaccine. After Seminary, Arlene and he served three United Methodist Churches in the Eastern PA Conference: Hempfield in Lancaster, PA, Calvary in Easton, PA, and St. Matthew's in Valley Forge, PA, after which he was assigned as President/CEO of Heritage Towers Retirement Community in Doylestown, PA, where he was part of a leadership team that transformed the facility from bankruptcy into a financially stable, healthy community, now identified as WEL. In retirement, he served for a year as the interim Supply Pastor at Doylestown United Methodist Church during the illness of their senior Pastor. For 18 years, he was a member of St. David's Human Research Review Board monitoring clinical drug trials to insure FDA regulations were followed, while at the same time being a part of Wyeth Laboratories Animal Care and Use Committee, insuring humane care and treatment of the facility's research animals. After retirement in 2000, he continued to volunteer with clinical drug trial monitoring and with research animal care and treatment programs.
In 2009, Bruce and Arlene moved to a cottage at the Lutheran Community at Telford and became actively involved in the community life, sustaining a regular regimen in the fitness center which was supplemented for Bruce with regular trips around Telford on his bicycle. Bruce served on a number of administrative committees at the Lutheran Community, and he was also involved with the life and ministry of Grace United Methodist Church of Telford, assisting with Sunday Church School teaching and occasional worship leadership as needed. Reading, study, and friendships enriched his days and sustained meaning and purpose thru the pilgrimage God gifted him to enjoy. His deep love for Arlene, his loyalty to his family, and his faithfulness to Jesus Christ were the unmistakable hallmarks of a life well lived.
A memorial service for Bruce will take place at 10 am on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at the Lutheran Community at Telford Chapel, 12 Lutheran Home Drive, Telford, PA 18969, where the family will receive friends from 9-10 am.
