Arlene B. Freed, 88, a long-time resident of Souderton, PA, and a resident of Souderton Mennonite Homes since 2019, passed away early Friday morning, February 10, 2023, at Lutheran Community at Telford.
Born October 3, 1934, in Mainland, PA, she was a daughter of the late William F. and Ida P. (Bergey) Freed. She grew up in Bergey, PA and Vernfield, PA. She attended hair dressing school and was licensed through the state.
Ms. Freed worked as an assembler in the electronics industry for many years for several companies. She lastly worked for Kulicke & Soffa which took her to Israel for an extended period of time. Following retirement, she worked part-time at Foulkeways at Gwynedd and for the Souderton Area School District.
Ms. Freed attended Calvary Church of Souderton, PA, where she served on the coffee team for many years and was a member of the Harmony ABF class. She was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Perseverance Volunteer Fire Company of Souderton, PA, and was a volunteer at Grand View Hospital in the outpatient medical and surgical department. Her hobbies included quilting, reading, cooking, and baking. She was happiest while taking part in activities with family and friends.
Surviving are three brothers, William Freed of Souderton, PA, Curtis Freed and his wife, Shirley, of Knoxville, TN, and Ralph Freed of Hatfield, PA; a sister, Lorene Derstine and her husband, Ivan, of Harleysville, PA; and a sister-in-law, Arlene A. Freed of Souderton, PA. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and many extended family members.
She was preceded in death by four siblings, Naomi Markley and her husband, Ephraim, Jacob Freed and his wife, Margaret, Norman Freed, and Harold Freed and his wife, Lucille; and a sister-in-law, Anna Freed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial service at 11 am on Friday, February 17, 2023, at the Souderton Mennonite Homes Chapel, 207 W. Summit St., Souderton, PA, where family will receive friends from 10-10:45 am. Interment will be private at Towamencin Mennonite Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Living Branches Foundation, Souderton Mennonite Agape Fund, 275 Dock Dr., Lansdale, PA 19446.
