Anthony Lorenzo, 54, of Elverson, PA, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday evening, October 21, 2024. He was the youngest of four sons born to the late Robert Joseph and Gertrude "Trudy" (Howe) Lorenzo. He was a graduate of Pennridge High School. He earned his bachelor's degree in Asian studies from Temple University and his master's degree in history from West Chester University. Anthony also held many certifications in martial arts including his 5th degree blackbelt in Shaolin Kempo Karate, Tai Chi as well as Tai Chi for arthritis.
Anthony was owner and chief instructor at Villari's Self Defense Center in Elverson, PA, since 2004 and formerly an adjunct Professor at Reading Area Community College as well as Penn State University where he would teach a class on history. Anthony was a published author and illustrator; his works include several academic papers and his book "Martial Thought Matters." The world was a classroom for him as he taught Tai Chi classes at North Penn YMCA as well as numerous other gyms, retirement communities, even libraries and churches. His teachings changed the lives of those young, and not so young, as well as those able bodied and those with severe physical limitations. He believed all life was precious and everyone should have the tools to defend themselves from those who mean them harm.
The very definition of Warrior Scholar, Anthony Lorenzo worked to improve both body and mind. He was always looking for any angle to better improve himself and better serve those he taught. He didn't just study martial arts he studied its origins its benefits as well as the medical and spiritual implications. He could make strangers feel like they were family and wouldn't miss the opportunity to help even if he was in need of help himself. Wherever he set foot he made it his mission to make it a better place. Though a man of sizeable stature he never came off as intimidating and was able to uplift and bring a smile to those around him.
Surviving are three brothers, Robert D. Lorenzo of Quakertown, PA, Shawn Lorenzo and his companion, Wendy Sandy, of Hatfield, PA, and John Lorenzo of Red Hill, PA; and two nephews, Andrew and David Lorenzo. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Sonja Lorenzo.
Anthony lived by the words "Honor God and Love each other." Anthony will be deeply missed by his brothers. Anthony we love you always and forever, and we will all be together again.
