Obituary

In memory of Abram C. Landes, 91, of Franconia Twp., who went home to be with his Lord on Monday, January 8, 2024, he passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family.  He was the loving husband of the late Sarah Moyer Landes, who died January 10, 2023. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in August 2022.

Born in Souderton, he was the son of the late Abram N. and Susie S. Landes.

Abe worked in sales and marketing for Hatfield Quality Meats-Clemens Food Group for 37 years. He retired as the Director of Marketing.  In his earlier years, he delivered milk and cheese with his Father and Uncle Jake (Landes Poultry and West View Dairy) of Souderton and was a commission merchant selling eggs, poultry, and meats at Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs.

As a community- minded individual, he was involved in many organizations such as the Lions Club since 1969 and served as its president from 1975-1976.  He was also a member of Philadelphia Food Trades Organization from 1990-1993, serving as its president in 1992.  Abe was chairman and served on the board for the Franconia Township Police Department starting in 1968.

He was an active member of Zion Mennonite Church and served in many different capacities in the life of the church.

Along with Norman Good, Abe founded MCC Material Resource Center in Harleysville in 2003 and in 1996 Abe was instrumental in the MCC Canner project and had been actively involved until his passing.

Abe was an avid fisherman and hunter, sharing his love of these sports with his family and friends. He restored antique furniture and antique vehicles including his much loved 1932 Ford Pickup truck. He also enjoyed traveling abroad to more than 22 countries and hosting many international exchange students. His love for his family was evident by always being available to help, offering advice when asked, his unforgettable "Abeisms", and the many culinary delights he enjoyed making for his family.

He is survived by a son, Abram Bradley and his wife, Mary Jane Landes, of Green Lane, PA; and a daughter, Jill A. and her husband, Michael D. Souder of North Chesterfield, VA; 3 grandchildren: Abram Eric and his wife, Nina C. Landes of Springfield, VA, Andrew Clayton Landes of Westtown, PA, and Emily J. and her husband, Christopher Nelson of North Chesterfield, VA;  5 great-grandchildren: JoJo, Penny, Atticus, Abram and Analiese and two sisters: Janet C.
